Even if you've only resided in Charleston for a short time, you've discovered the secret : we live in one of America's truly unique and delightful cities.
Us locals enjoy Charleston's historic downtown district, the area's world-class restaurants, beautiful marshes, pristine beaches, oyster roasts, fabulous boating and great golf.
However, all of this pales in comparison to the genuinely nice people you will meet when you move here. The area really is amazing in so many ways, but it's the people that live here that make this a place that, almost instantly, feels like your hometown.
I'd like to introduce you to a few folks who, if you asked, would tell you that they're nothing special. But, believe me, they're perfect examples of what makes Charleston so extraordinary.
Meet David Nelson
The first time I experienced Frogmore Stew, David Nelson was at the helm directing culinary traffic. Frogmore Stew (also called a "Lowcountry Boil") is a delectable combo of local shrimp, corn on the cob, blue crab, potatoes, smoked sausage and a mixture of "secret" spices. David, and his wife Lori, are often guilty of inviting friends over - and then feeding them riduculous amounts of great food. Every neighborhood should be so lucky!
When he's not cooking, David is Director of Instruction at Wild Dunes Resort. He is well known as the innovative teaching pro at this island resort. As Director of Instruction David has introduced a number of ground-breaking classes that combine technology and an eye for proper swing mechanics. Over the past 25 years, he has helped golfers of all ages and abilities to move their game to unimagined levels. Every golf resort should be so lucky!
